THE PROBLEM
Students make big decisions with almost no real exposure.
High schoolers are expected to choose a career path while relying on passive info, overstretched counselors, and vague advice.
Passive learning only
Career research means reading about jobs, not doing them — students never get to test fit before committing.
Counselor shortages
Extreme counselor-to-student ratios (376:1 vs. the recommended 250:1) mean most students get minimal career guidance.*
No structured pathway
There's no low-risk way to explore whether a career actually suits you until it's too late to change course.
*ASCA, National Student-to-School-Counselor Ratio Report (2023–2024).
THE RESEARCH
What students, teachers & parents actually said.
Clarity over inspiration. "Dream bigger" isn't the answer — students need to understand what careers actually involve.
Tangible rewards drive engagement. Students responded to certificates, site visits, resume value — not abstract motivation.
Schools are the real distribution channel. Teachers & counselors drive adoption far more than individual sign-ups.
Balance interest with economic reality. Students need help matching their strengths to stable, real opportunities.

Reflection
What I learned.
1
Distribution shapes design.
Building for schools — not just students — changed every product decision.
2
AI accelerates, not replaces.
Deciding what to build and why still required product judgment — not prompts.
3
Tight loops ship products.
Research → design → build → test in short cycles is how a solo project becomes real.
